Marie Kølbæk Iversen’s work is layered and has multi-faceted references. Often making use of closed circuit video technology, her work reflects on ideas such as the schism in the relationship between the representational models for describing space / time, and the empirical experience of said space / time.

Such projects are complex in their realisation, generally site-specific, and exhibit a heightened awareness of audience, event, and cultural context. In that sense, her practice could be said to be highly oriented towards a sense of place, or rather: a sense of the means by which Cultures represent place and it’s experience.

By foregrounding the technical process and the creative potential of the viewer, Kølbæk Iversen's work focuses on the moment when immediate perception and experience supersede cognition.
